Information for Visiting Athletic Trainers

Scott Stadium

The Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium, is a facility befitting Virginia’s stature as one of the nation’s elite Division I-A football programs. It was dedicated at UVa’s 2000 season opener against Brigham Young on September 2.

A representative of the University of Virginia Sports Medicine Staff will contact visiting teams’ athletic trainers or designated individuals to discuss access to medical facilities and medical coverage. The visiting team athletic training room is located adjacent to the equipment staging area on the East Side of the stadium. A designated athletic training room is designed to accommodate coed athletic training personnel.

Biohazard Management Equipment

There is a hose attachment on the visitor sideline for water on the field. 40 pound bags of ice will be available in the visitor tunnel. Cups are available upon request, please call ahead if you need us to provide them.
A field vehicle with emergency equipment (spineboard, vacuum splints, AED, oxygen) will be made available to assist in the transport of an injured athlete off of the field if requested. There will be one rescue squad assigned to the field for both teams. They will stand by until you request their assistance. ALS services will be on the field or readily available in the stadium.
X-ray facilities are available at the stadium. The University of Virginia Hospital is located less than one mile from the stadium. Transport to the UVA Hospital will be coordinated according to the situation either via a University vehicle, UVA Police, or the rescue squad.

John Paul Jones Arena

John Paul Jones Arena has been home to University of Virginia men’s & women’s basketball since 2006.

A representative of the University of Virginia Sports Medicine Staff will contact visiting teams’ athletic Trainers or designated individuals to discuss access to medical facilities and medical coverage.

Prior to competitions and practice sessions, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the JPJ Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During competitions and practice sessions, water,cups, and injury ice are provided. Hot packs, extra first aid supplies, taping table, and a contaminated materials container (CMC) are available in the visitor locker room. Crutches, vacuum splints, and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are located on the home bench.

Emergency medical services and a University of Virginia Sports Medicine physician will be present at every competition.

Klockner Stadium

One of the nation’s premier facilities, Klockner Stadium was dedicated in 1991, and is home to the University of Virginia men’s and women’s soccer programs in the fall and men’s and women’s lacrosse programs in the spring.

Prior to competitions and practice sessions, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the McCue Center Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During competitions and practice sessions, water,cups, and injury ice bags are provided. Hot packs are available at the stadium during contests, as are crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit, a contaminated materials container (CMC), and a vehicle for transporting injured athletes from the field of play, if necessary.

Emergency medical services, if not present at the contest, has a response time of less than ten minutes, and a physician is present or on-call for every competition.

Aquatic & Fitness Center

The University of Virginia Aquatic and Fitness Center opened during the summer of 1996, and has been the home of Cavalier swimming & diving ever since.

Prior to competitions and practice sessions, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the UHall Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During competitions and practice sessions, water, cups, and injury ice bags are provided. Hot packs are made available as needed, as are crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit, and a contaminated materials container (CMC).

Emergency medical services, if not present at the contest, has a response time of less than ten minutes, and a University of Virginia Sports Medicine physician will be on-call for every competition. Life guards are present at every practice and competition.

Memorial Gymnasium

Memorial Gymnasium was home Cavalier basketball for 42 season before the construction of University Hall. Thanks to an extensive renovation, it now provides a premier facility as home for University of Virginia volleyball in the fall, and Cavalier wrestling in the winter and spring.

Prior to competitions and practice sessions, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the McCue Center Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During competitions and practice sessions, water, cups and injury ice are provided. Hot packs are made available as needed, as are crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit and a contaminated materials container (CMC).

Emergency medical services, if not present at the contest, has a response time of less than ten minutes, and a University of Virginia Sports Medicine physician will be on-call or present for every competition.

Lannigan Track

Lannigan Track has been the home of University of Virginia track & field since 1971.

Prior to races, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the McCue Center Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During races, water and cups are provided. Ice bags are available at the track during contests, as are crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit, a contaminated materials container (CMC) and a vehicle for removing injured athletes from the track, if necessary.

Emergency medical services, if not present at the contest, will be available, and a physician is on-call for every competition.

Davenport Field

Dedicated in 2002, Davenport Field, one of the finest collegiate baseball facilities in the nation, is the home to University of Virginia baseball.

Prior to competitions and practice sessions, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the University Hall Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During competitions and practice sessions, water,cups, and injury ice bags are provided. Crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit and a contaminated materials container (CMC) are available at Davenport field during contests.

Emergency medical services, if not present at the contest, has a response time of less than ten minutes, and a physician is on-call for every competition.

The Park

The Park, located on the North Grounds of the University, has served as the home field for the Cavalier softball team since the 1995 season.

Prior to competitions and practice sessions, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the McCue Center Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During competitions and practice sessions, water, cups, and injury ice are provided. Crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit and a contaminated materials container (CMC) are made available behind the home dugout.

Emergency medical services, has a response time of less than 10 minutes, and a University of Virginia Sports Medicine physician will be on-call or present for every competition.

The Turf Field

Prior to competitions and practice sessions, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the McCue Center Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During competitions and practice sessions, water,cups, and injury ice bags are provided. Crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit and a contaminated materials container (CMC) are available at Davenport field during contests.

Emergency medical services, if not present at the contest, has a response time of less than ten minutes, and a physician is on-call for every competition.

Snyder Tennis Center / Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club

Prior to competitions and practice sessions, visiting sports medicine staff will have access to the Memorial Gymnasium Athletic Training facility. The athletic training facility is located in the basement of Memorial Gymnasium and is equipped with the following modalities: ice, hot packs, electrical stimulation and ultrasound.

During competitions and practice sessions, watercups and injury ice are provided. Crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit, and a contaminated materials container (CMC) are available in the athletic training facilitiy during practice and competition. Access to the main athletic training room (University Hall) will be made available if prior arrangements are made. Emergency medical services, if not present at the contest, has a response time of less than 10 minutes, and a physician is on-call for every competition.

Rivanna Reservoir Boathouse

The Rivanna Reservoir Boathouse is the home of University of Virginia rowing.

Prior to races, visiting sports medicine staff has access to the McCue Center Athletic Training facility, where they can use various modalities in the care of their athletes. During races, water and cups are provided. Hot packs and ice bags are available at the Boathouse during contests, as are crutches, vacuum splints, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a first aid kit, a contaminated materials container (CMC) and a launch for removing injured athletes from water, if necessary.

Emergency medical services, if not present at the contest, will be available, and a physician is on-call for every competition.
