Curtis Staples Wins Three-Point Contest

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — University of Virginia guard Curtis Staples won the three-point shooting contest held in conjunction with the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four on Thursday (March 26). Staples made 18 consecutive three-pointers at one point to defeat Notre Dame’s Pat McGarrity in the final round.
Staples, from Roanoke, Va., established NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference career records during the 1997-98 season for three-point field goals made and attempted. He finished his Virginia career with 413 three-point field goals made and 1079 attempted. He is eighth on UVa’s career scoring list with 1,757 points.
