Virginia Volleyball Defeats N.C. State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Virginia volleyball team rebounded from a tough loss to North Carolina earlier in the week by defeating the North Carolina State Wolfpack 3-0. The Cavaliers captured the win by scores of 15-11, 15-7 and 15-5.
Virginia setter Mary Frances Scott paced the UVa offensive attack, as she recorded a match-high 53 assists to go along with nine digs, two blocks and two kills. Most of Scott’s assists went to the trio of Andrea Fischer (17 kills, 5 digs, 1 assist), Jessica Parsons (13 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig) and Deanna Zwarich (15 kills, 3 blocks). Katie Jones recorded a match-high 14 digs to add with five kills and one block. Tamara Shulman (6 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks), Whitney Bilger (3 kills, 3 digs) and Kristi Winters (5 digs 1 kill, 1 block) contributed for UVa in the 3-0 win.
N.C. State was led by Laura Kimbrell (11 kills), Kaitlin Robinson (nine digs) and Erin Vesey (30 assists) in the loss.
The win improves Virginia’s record to 15-3 overall, 4-2 in the ACC. The victory was UVa’s fourth consecutive over NCSU. The loss drops N.C. State’s record to 10-8 overall, 0-6 in the conference. The Cavaliers will return to action on Tuesday, (Oct. 13) when they host the Maryland Terrapins at Memorial Gym. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
