CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Demya Walker had 22 points, 11 rebounds and blocked five shots as No. 17 Virginia held California to 24 percent shooting in the second half en route to a 70-55 victory Saturday.
Walker had eight points to lead all Cavaliers scorers in the second half as Virginia (3-1) slowly took control after leading just 32-30 at the half.
Telisha Quarles hit a 3-pointer to start an 11-0 run in the middle of the half. At the close of the run, Walker stole the ball off a bad pass and hit alayup seconds later for a 58-44 lead.
Walker was 10-of-19 from the field for the Cavaliers, who shot 51 percent in the second half, including 10 points off turnovers. Monick Foote and Lisa Hosac had eight apiece for Virginia.
Paige Bowie led the Golden Bears (1-1) with 13 points, and Courtney Johnson added 11.
