GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fourth-year middle blocker Jessica Parsons (Green Oaks,Ill./Libertyville) has been selected as Co-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending October 3. Parsons, a1998 First Team All-ACC selection, shares the award with North Carolina’sTori Seibert.
Parsons had an outstanding week in leading the Cavaliers two a pair of ACCroad wins. In the two wins (8 games), Parsons totaled 40 kills (5.0/g) and20 digs (2.5/g). She hit an impressive .395 (40 kills, 10 errors, 76attempts).
In a 3-0 (15-13, 15-2, 15-7) win over Maryland on September 28, Parsonsnailed 10 kills on 20 attempts with just one error for an outstanding .450hitting percentage. She also added eight digs, two service aces and twoblock assists in the Cavalier triumph.
In a 3-2 (9-15, 11-15, 16-14, 15-12, 15-10) come-from-behind victory atFlorida State on Sunday, October 3, Parsons set a career-high with 30kills, just one shy of the UVa school record. Her previous career best was27 kills against Georgetown in 1998. The Cavaliers lost the first twogames to the Seminoles before rallying to win the last three games for thevictory. Parsons hit .375 in the match and contributed 12 digs and twoblocks as well.
On the season, Parsons has totaled a team-high 186 kills for an average of3.6 per game. She is second on the team with 54 total blocks and third indigs with 127. In her career, Parsons has registered 1,104 kills, good forfourth place all-time at Virginia. Her 390 career blocks is third at UVaas well.
Virginia stands at 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the ACC heading intothis weekend’s matchups with Duke and Wake Forest. The Cavaliers enter theweekend with a three-match winning streak. The ‘Hoos travel to Durham,N.C., for a 7:30 p.m. match against Duke on Friday, October 8, and thenplay at Wake Forest on Saturday, October 9, at 6:00 p.m.
