CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The #3 North Carolina Tar Heels shut out #9Virginia 2-0. Carolina went ahead in the 11th minute when Anne Remy(Norman, OK/ Norman) received a through ball from Meredith Florance(Dallas, TX/ Highland Park) and was able to put the ball past Cavalierkeeper Julie Harris (Ridgefield, CT/ Ridgefield). The goal marked Remy’s7th goal of the season and Florance’s 7th assist.
The Tar Heels came out just as strong in the second half of thegame and scored again in the 58th minute. Lorrie Fair (Los Altos, CA/ LosAltos) took advantage of a cross from Remy and headed the ball into theback of the net past Megan Beoehm (Columbia, MD/ Howard) giving NorthCarolina a 2-0 lead. Remy and Florance are now tied with 7 assists each forthe Tar Heels.
Virginia falls to 11-5 for the season and North Carolina improvesits record to 13-2. The Cavaliers return to action on Sunday at KlocknerStadium against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at 1:00p.m.
