Virginia Field Hockey Opens First Round Of ACC's

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Cavaliers, currently ranked No. 12 in thenation, will face No. 10 Duke in the Atlantic Coast Conference Field HockeyChampionships on Thursday, Nov. 4. Virginia is the fourth seed in thetournament and the Blue Devils are the fifth seed, thanks to the Cavaliers’3-2 overtime victory on Sunday.

The Cavaliers and the Blue Devils will square off on Thursday, Nov.4 at 4:00 pm in Winston-Salem, N.C. Wake Forest University is the host ofthe 1999 Championships.

On Friday, No. 2 Wake Forest and No. 3 North Carolina will meet in thefirst semifinal at 4:00 pm. Top-seeded Maryland will take on the winner ofthe Virginia-Duke game at 7:00 pm. The ACC finals will be held on Sunday,Nov. 7 at 3:30 pm.

Virginia has been ranked in the top 12 all year long and looks toextend its streak of 16 consecutive ACC semifinal appearances. In addition,the Cavaliers have appeared in the last two ACC Championship games (1997,1998).

Virginia is led in scoring by Jessica Coleman (Oceanport,N.J./Shore Regional) whose 21 goals and 10 assists ranks in the top ten inthe nation in points, points per game, goals, and goals per game. CarrieGoodloe (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) leads the team with 18 assists,1.00 assists per game, both of which statistics rank in the top-10 in thenation.
