CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — University of Virginia wide receiver Billy McMullen wasnamed the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for his play inUVa’s 50-21 win over Buffalo on Saturday.

McMullen, a 6-4 true freshman from Richmond, Va., had a very productive dayagainst the Bulls, catching three passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns.He teamed with Dan Ellis on a 30-yard touchdown pass late in the firstquarter to boost the Cavaliers’ lead to 14-0. The pair teamed up for aseven-yard scoring play in the second quarter to put Virginia ahead 24-7.It was McMullen’s second two-touchdown peformance in the last month. Healso scored twice vs. N.C. State.

McMullen leads the team in receiving yards (405) and yards per reception(18.4), and is second on the team in receptions (22) and touchdown catches(five).

This is the second time McMullen has won the league’s weekly rookie award.

Other winners announced by the conference are: Offensive Back of theWeek-Joe Hamilton (Georgia Tech) and Chris Weinke (Florida State),Offensive Lineman of the Week-Tarlos Thomas (Florida State), DefensiveLineman of the Week-Tommy Polley (Florida State), Defensive Back of theWeek-David Bomar (North Carolina), Specialist of the Week-ScottieMontgomery (Duke).
