Cavalier Golfers 11th at Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The University of Virginia golf team stands in 11th place after two rounds of the San Juan Shoot-Out in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The tournament is the opening tournament of the spring season for the Cavaliers.
Virginia has a 36-hole total of 596, six strokes behind Wake Forest for the top 10. Clemson has blazed to a 19-under par 557 and is two strokes ahead of ACC rival Georgia Tech. Georgia is in third at 571, while East Tennessee State is fourth at 572.
East Tennessee State’s David Christensen fired a 5-under par 67 today and is 8-under 136 after 18 holes. He holds a one-stroke lead over Clemson’s Michael Hoey in a tightly bunched field that shows 26 players at or below par. N.C. State’s Carl Pettersson fired a 66 today, the low round of the tournament.
Cameron Yancey is Virginia’s low man. The sophomore from Blackstone, Va., has shot 71s in both rounds and is in a four-way tie for 17th at 2-under 142. Junior All-American James Driscoll is one stroke behind Yancey and is tied for 21st.
Play concludes with 18 holes tomorrow.
