CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Following a 16-4-3 season and a trip to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, the University of Virginia has placed four players on the Virginia Sports Information Directors all-state team. Sophomore forward Chris Albright was named first-team and VaSID Player of the Year, while Cavalier head coach George Gelnovatch was named VaSID Coach of the Year.

Senior defender Matt Chulis, and sophomore midfielders Jason Moore and Ryan Trout joined Albright on the first team.

Albright led the Cavaliers in goals with 20 and points with 43. His goals ranked fourth all-time at Virginia in a single season and his points ranked eighth. Albright became the first sophomore to lead UVa in both categories out-right since Jeff Gaffney in 1983. He was also named first-team All-ACC.

Chulis, who finished his career having played 2,606 consecutive minutes, led the Cavalier defense to 11 shutouts this fall. For his career, Chulis helped UVa to 32 shutouts. He was also a first-team All-ACC selection.

Moore finished the season with seven assists, tied for second on the squad. A finalist for the Hermann Trophy, Moore was a first-team All-ACC pick as well.

Trout, who had only three goals as a freshman in 1997, finished in a three-way tie for second on the team with six goals. He matched his freshman output of 11 assists, becoming just the second Cavalier to post 10 or more assists in each of his first two seasons. Trout’s 23 points was second on the team while he led the squad in assists. Gelnovatch led the team to its 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and a second-place regular-season finish in the ACC with a 4-1-1 mark. The Cavaliers earned the second seed in the NCAAs and advanced to the quarterfinals for the 10th time in 11 seasons.
