CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–University of Virginia senior All-American Meridith Thorpe (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) was named the ACC Player of the Week for her efforts against Georgetown and North Carolina last week.

In the game against Georgetown, which the Cavaliers won 6-1, her goal with 4:55 gone in the second half of play gave the Cavaliers a 4-0 lead and made her the ACC’s all-time leading scorer with 213 career points. Thorpe, who already holds the ACC career record for goals with 95, passed former UNC All-American Cindy Werley who had 212 points in her career. Just 4:55 into the second half Thorpe slotted Lorraine Vizzuso’s (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) pass into the cage and set a new ACC record. Against then #4 North Carolina, Thorpe scored the opening goal and added the game-winning assist to Meredith Elwell (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) Thorpe now has 95 goals and 26 assists for 216 points, which ranks eighth all-time nationally at the Division I level, just four points shy of the seventh-place slot.
