Football Season Tickets Sold Out for Third Consecutive Year

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia has sold out of football season tickets for the third consecutive year. The season ticket sale means no single game ticket orders for the Clemson, North Carolina State and North Carolina games are being accepted.
Virginia’s season ticket sell-out figure is 26,147. UVa has sold at least 23,000 season tickets for the last eight years.
“This year’s sale marks the third consecutive season that season tickets have sold out and the second time we’ve sold out of season tickets before the football team began preseason practice,” said Dick Mathias, UVa’s assistant director of athletics for ticket office management. “Our season ticket sale along with our commitment to Clemson, North Carolina State and North Carolina has exhausted the supply of tickets for those games.
“With the increased interest in Virginia football, I urge those people interested in season tickets for next year to reserve their place on our wait list now. We will have a few thousand new seats in place for the 1999 season which hopefully will handle the wait list requests we receive this year. Requests for next year will be prioritized first by Virginia Student Aid Foundation donations and then on the date a wait list request is received.”
Tickets for Virginia’s home games with Maryland (Sept. 12) and San Jose State (Oct. 3) are currently on sale for $22 each. Tickets for the Cavaliers’ six away games are also on sale. The UVa athletic ticket office in University Hall is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and tickets can also be ordered by calling 1-800-542-8821.
Virginia’s five home games this fall include Maryland (Sept. 12), Clemson (Sept. 19), San Jose State (Oct. 3), North Carolina State (Oct. 24) and North Carolina (Nov. 14).
The Cavaliers finished the 1997 season with an overall record of 7-4. It marked the 11th consecutive season Virginia has won at least seven games. UVa is one of only four Division I-A programs in the nation to win at least seven games every season for the last 11 years. The others are Florida State, Michigan and Nebraska.
