CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Six members of the 1998 University of Virginia football team were selected in the recent National Football League Draft (April 17-18).

Defensive end Patrick Kerney was selected in the first round by the Atlanta Falcons, quarterback Aaron Brooks was selected in the fourth round by the Green Bay Packers, linebacker Wali Rainer was selected in the fourth round by the Cleveland Browns, defensive tackle Antonio Dingle was selected in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Steelers, defensive back Anthony Poindexter was selected in the seventh round by the Baltimore Ravens and offensive lineman Robert Hunt was selected in the seventh round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kerney is the tenth Virginia player to be selected in the first round of the draft and the seventh since George Welsh became the Cavaliers’ head coach prior to the 1982 season. The six UVa players selected in the 1999 draft equals the most Virginia players selected in a single draft. UVa also had six players selected in 1948 and 1997.
