Golf Hires Sapp and Fisher as Assistant Coaches

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue golf coach Devon Brouse has announced the hiring of Andrew Sapp and Rayma Fisher as the program’s top assistant coaches.

Sapp joins the Boilermakers from North Carloina, where he was an assistant for five years under Brouse from 1993-98. He assisted Brouse in all areas of the UNC men’s golf program including teaching, practice, tournament scheduling and recruiting. Along with his duties as assistant golf coach, Sapp served as a golf instructor for the university and was the camp coordinator for the Coaches North Carolina Golf School.

“Andrew is a bright young man who has an excellent future in coaching,” Brouse says. “His contributions to the Boilermaker golf program will be many. As a player, Andrew was very coachable and as a coach he has been a pleasure to work with.”

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Sapp helped coach Brouse guide the Tar Heels to two consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in 1995-96.

Sapp, a graduate of North Carolina with a bachelor’s of art degree in business administration, was a member of the Tar Heel golf team from 1989-93. He earned his master’s degree in sports administration in 1996 and conducted his master’s research in the area of academic enhancement for student athletes.

Fisher, a former standout golfer at Missouri, joins Brouse’s staff from Roswell, Ga., where she worked with the American Junior Golf Association for the past two yearsas a tournament director.

A native of Portland, Ind., Fisher graduated from Mizzou in 1996 with a B.A. degree in psychology. She was a four-year letterwinner under coach Mary Scott.

“Rayma’s experience with junior golf will make her an excellent recruiter and talent scout, Brouse says. “We’re very excited to have her on staff.”

Purdue’s men’s team begins match action Sept. 12 at the Ridges Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn., while the women start on Sept. 25 as they host the Lady Northern at the Purdue Kampen Course.
