Men's Soccer Shuts Out North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. —The Cavaliers battled out of a scoreless first half to net two goals in the opening 15 minutes of the second half to defeat the North Carolina Tar Heels 2-0 today in Chapel Hill. Sam Franklin (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) scored his second consecutive game winner just five minutes into the second half and Chris Albright (Philadephia, Pa./William Penn Charter) added his team-leading 8th goal of the season to notch scores for the Cavaliers.
Although Virginia outshot the Heels 7-3 and outcornered them 5-1 inthe first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net. Franklin finally broke the ice 4:45 into the second half to breakthe tie. His shot glanced off a defender and into the net. Nine minutes later, Albright saw the Heels’ keeper out of position and deposited the ball in the back of the net for an insurance goal. Brock Yetso (Columbia, Md./Centennial) played the entire 90 minutes in goal and picked up his third shutout of the season and second consecutive.
With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 6-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 inthe conference. UNC falls to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Virginia returns to action with a game against Buffalo on Wednesday, September 30 at 7:00 in Klockner Stadium.
