CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Cavalier senior All-American Michelle Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) was named the ACC Player of the Week after recording four goals and three assists in the Cavaliers’ 3 wins over the week. Virginia, ranked first in the nation, defeated #7 Northeastern 5-3 and #16 Massachusetts 2-0 as well as Appalachian State 9-0. Vizzuso tallied the game-winning assist (to her sister Lorraine) in the Northeastern game and hit the game-winning goal herself against Massachusetts and Appalachian State.
The Cavaliers have not allowed a goal in 170 minutes of play and have allowed only one shot in that entire span.
A member of the United States national field hockey team, Vizzuso is already the career leader at Virginia in assists with 42. She ranks fourth all-time at Virginia in career scoring with 124 points (41g, 42a). Her 41 goals ranks fifth all time at Virginia, just behind Cheryl Gleason’s 42 (1981-84).
The top-ranked Cavaliers will face Richmond on Wednesday, Sept. 16 in Richmond. Game time against the Spiders is 4:00 pm.
