Stacy Holmes Continues to Shine

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia softball player Stacy Holmes (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) has played a large role in the Cavaliers success this season. Virginia stands at (30-19) overall, heading into the heart of its conference schedule.
Holmes has started each of UVa’s 49 games at second base this season. She has recorded 42 hits, gathered 29 RBI, scored 19 runs and has a (.271) batting average. Holmes has hit five doubles, three triples and one homerun to go along with five stolen bases.
One of Virginia’s top players this season, she put together an outstanding performance in the Sports Plus Collegiate Classic Tournament in Richmond, Va. Holmes recorded seven hits (2 doubles), gathered nine RBI and scored four runs to propel the Cavaliers to a 5-0 record as Virginia won the tournament title. Holmes was named the 1998 SPCC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Only a junior, she has established herself as one of UVa’s leaders. Holmes has been a mainstay at second base for Virginia, as she has started all but two of the 117 games she has played in as a Cavalier. With 42 hits this season, she has nearly eclipsed her hit total of 49 from her previous two seasons combined with six doubleheaders and the ACC Tournament yet to be played.
Last season, she was selected to the 1997 ACC All-Tournament Team and was named a 1997 Louisville Slugger All-Southeast Region Team selection.Stacy Holmes by the numbers:
