CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia has sold a school-record number of bowl tickets for the 1998 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Officially, Virginia sold 21,000 tickets for the bowl game. UVa’s allotment was 18,500 tickets. The remainder of the sale came from Virginia fans buying directly from the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

“We are thoroughly pleased with the enormous support shown by our fans in such a short period of time,” said Dick Mathias, UVa’s assistant director of athletics for ticket office management. “Virginia fans obviously have a love affair with this football team and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.”

The previous record for bowl ticket sales at UVa was 20,000 for the 1995 Peach Bowl.

“We’re pleased to have Virginia back in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl,” said bowl chairman Bob Coggin. “This sellout demonstrates the enormous level of excitement the Virginia fans have for their team and our bowl.”
