Virginia Splits First Day of Cal State Fullerton Tournament

FULLERTON, Calif. – The University of Virginia softball teamopened play in the Cal State Fullerton Tournament, defeating EasternMichigan in the first game 4-1 before dropping the second game to hostCal State Fullerton 1-0.
In game one, Christina Quinn continued her impressive pitching bystriking out seven batters en route to a one-hit performance. MeaghanYoung (2-2) highlighted the Cavalier offense, recording a triple and asingle while gathered two RBI. Karen Breshears (1-2) added a triple,while Jen Krill (1-3) and Beth Crimi (1-3) each posted singles. Krilland Julie Amaon recorded an RBI in the victory.
In game two, Virginia gave Cal State Fullerton all it could handlebefore the Titans scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to seal avictory.
Stacey Zagol pitched a suburb game, striking out 10 batters whileallowing one walk and three hits. Virginia was able to muster up sixhits, however, the Cavaliers were never able to score a run. Breshears (2-3) led the UVa offense collecting two singles, whileYoung (1-2), Crimi (1-3) and Sadira Furlow (1-3) each recorded asingle in the loss.
With the split, Virginia’s record moves to (3-3) overall. The Cavaliers return to action on Friday, (Feb. 27) to face San DiegoState at 3:00 p.m. and San Jose State at 7:00 p.m.
