Virginia Holds Football Scrimmage

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Quarterback Dan Ellis threw for 203 yards and threetouchdowns to highlight a preseason scrimmage at the University of Virginiatoday. Ellis completed 14 of 24 passes, including six consecutivecompletions at one point.

Running back Tyree Foreman led all rushers with 105 yards on 12 carries andscored on a 63-yard burst. Thomas Jones gained 77 yards on 16 carries.Jones scored on a seven-yard run.

Wide receivers Kevin Coffey and Demetrius Dotson caught four passes apieceto lead all receivers. Coffey had 100 yards receiving, including a 65-yardtouchdown from Ellis. Dotson gained 47 yards receiving and caught atfive-yard scoring pass from Ellis.

Todd Braverman booted two field goals, while David Greene added one.

Linebackers Earl Sims and Byron Thweatt led the defensive effort with 10tackles each. Thweatt also intercepted a pass. Linebacker Shannon Tayloradded six tackles, including two quarterback sacks. Linebacker WilliamClark also was in on six tackles. Defensive backs Antwan Harris and DwayneStukes broke up two passes apiece. Defensive back Alex Seals returned aninterception 65 yards for a touchdown, while Chris Williams also had aninterception.
