PRINCESS ANNE COUNTRY CLUB, Va. — The University of Virginiawomen’s tennis team faced Old Dominion University on Sunday, February 6,2000. The women defeated the Monarchs 8-1, improving the Cavalier’s recordto 5-1 overall.
Virginia won all six of the singles matches to take a 6-0 leadentering doubles play. The Cavs then won two of three doubles matches forthe 8-1 win.
In singles play, the Wahoos received wins from Amy O’Donnell(Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah), Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas/Memorial),Henriette Williams (Millburn, N.J./Millburn), Leslie Cook (Boynton Beach,Fla./Lake Worth Christian), Jennifer Tuchband (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton),and Kelly Weaver (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston).
In doubles competition, the Virginia women took wins in both thefirst and third seeds. The Cavaliers’ lone lose came at the #2 doublesspot, as Amy O’Donnell and Christine Kim were defeated byAna Radeljevic andIva Beli, 8-3. The Wahoo duo of Cook and Schweer, ranked 49th in thenation, posted an 8-4 win over Kannarkat and Sotiriu at doulbles #1, whileWeaver and Tuchband defeated Rosa and Araujo 8-3 at doubles #3.
Virginia returns to action on Sunday, February 13 when they take onMarshall at the Boar’s Head at 1:30 pm.
