Virginia Chosen Second In Preseason ACC Softball Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Virginia softball team has beenpicked to finish second in the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference PreseasonSoftball Coaches Poll as voted by the league’s five head coaches. TheCavaliers totaled 18 points in the poll with one first-place vote.

Florida State, the two-time defending ACC champions, has been picked to winthe 2000 ACC title. The Seminoles grabbed the remaining four first-placevotes and finished with 23 points in the poll. Maryland follows the ‘Hoosin third place with 15 points. North Carolina (14 points) and Georgia Tech(5 points) round out the poll.

Virginia finished the 1999 season with a 35-26 overall record and a 4-4mark in ACC play. The Cavaliers lost to Florida State in the championshipgame of the ACC Tournament last season.

The Cavaliers begin play in the 2000 season on Thursday, February 17 with apair of games. UVa opens the season in Las Vegas with a game against UNLVat 3:00 p.m., and then plays Portland State at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.Virginia then plays in the UNLV Classic in Las Vegas February 18-20.
