CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s varsity eightisranked second in the nation in the 2000 Preseason Poll conducted byUSRowing and the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
In the varsity eight rankings, Brown is ranked first andVirginiais second. California-Berkeley is ranked third, and Washington andSouthernCalifornia are tied for fourth.
At last year’s NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships, Brown won thevarsity eight competition with Virginia finishing second andCalifornia-Berkeley third.
UVa won the second varsity eight, and finished second in boththefirst varsity eight and the varsity four to finish tied with Brown inthefinal team standings at last year’s NCAA Championships. Virginia andBrownboth finished with 56 points in the team competition, but the teamchampionship went to Brown based on the NCAA tiebreaker of highestfinishin the first varsity eight.
Virginia opens its 2000 spring season on March 18 against SanDiegoState at the Rivanna Reservoir.
