BLACKSBURG, Va. — The University of Virginia’s Kiamesha Otey (Quinton,Va./New Kent) took third in the long jump at the ACC Championships today inBlacksburg, making her an All-Conference performer in her rookie season.Otey’s leap of 6.00m (19′ 8 1/4″) led a 3-7 finish in the jump today asteammate Curtrell Frye (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) jumped 5.82m (19′ 1 1/4″) totake 7th. Otey will have two more chances to be named to the All-ACC teamas she qualified for the finals in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash. Thewomen as a team stand in fifth with 19 points, one behind Maryland andthree behind NC State.

Also scoring for the Cavaliers was Dana Coons (Vienna, Va. /JamesMadison), who took seventh in the 5000m run in 17:24.55. The distancemedley team of Frances Warner (Fort Drum, N.Y./Carthage Central), MegSchwartz (Morristown, N.J./Morristown), Jeanna Composti (Farmingville,N.Y./Sachem), and Sarah Folse (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) took thirdwith a time of 11:44.78. Annica White (Weston, Mass./Weston) and ViktoriaOsipenko (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) both vaulted 3.46m (11′ 4 1/4″) tohelp pace the Cavaliers efforts as White took seventh and Osipenko tookeighth.

The Cavaliers also had a number of qualifiers for the finalstomorrow. Folse and Warner both qualified for the finals of the mile, andComposti qualified in the 800m run.

On the men’s side, the Cavaliers stand in 8th with 8 points, thanksto Justin Wood (Nevada City, Calif./Nevada Union)’s fourth-place finish inthe 5000m run. Wood ran a 14:34.91 in his rookie conference championships.The distance medley team’s sixth place finish accounted for the three otherCavalier points on the night.

Rob Pearce (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) qualified for thefinals of both the 800m run and the mile tomorrow. Steve Gross (PortMatilda, Pa./State College) will join him in the finals of the mile.Jarrett Hagwood (Martinsville, Va./Laurel) and Marion Mason (Fort Belvoir,Va./Hayfield) will also compete tomorrow having advanced to the finals ofthe 60m hurdles.
