Virginia's Bosevska Sets ACC Swimming Meet Record In 400 IM

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Virginia first-year Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje,Macedonia/Trinity Prep) set her second ACC Meet record in as many days asshe won the preliminaries of the 400 individual medley with a time of4:15.83 on Friday at the 2000 Women’s ACC Swimming and Diving Championshipsat the Maurice J. Koury Natatorium. On Thursday, Bosevska set ACC Meet andUVa school records in winning the 200 IM in a time of 2:00.59.
With her winning time of 4:15.83 in the prelims, Bosevska broke NorthCarolina’s Erika Acuff’s previous meet record of 4:16.04. Earlier thisseason, Bosevska set the Virginia school record in the 400 IM with a timeof 4:15.58 in the Cavalier Invitational on December 4. In addition toBosevska, UVa third-year Valerie Oswald (Charlottesville, Va./McLean)earned a spot in tonight’s 400 IM final by finishing fourth in the prelimswith a time of 4:19.54.
In the 200 butterfly, fourth-year Kori Forster (New Orleans, La./BenjaminFranklin) turned in a time of 54.72 in the prelims to finish second. Hertime meets the NCAA “B” qualifying standard and was just fourone-hundredths of a second shy of UNC’s Summer Mack’s first-place time.Forster just missed earning a spot in the finals of the 100 breaststroke asshe posted a ninth-place time of 1:05.07.
The Cavaliers have three swimmers who qualified for the finals of the 200freestyle. Fourth-year Emily Carrig (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman),coming off a second-place performance in the 500 free, clocked a time of1:50.04 to finish fourth in the prelims of the 200 free. Fourth-year LauraSullivan (Sarasota, Fla./Peddie School), who placed third in the 500 free,is the seventh seed in the finals of the 200 free after posting a time of1:50.57 in the prelims. Fourth-year Emily Trakas (Herndon, Va./Herndon)touched in 1:51.01 to finish eighth in the prelims and advance to thefinals.
Third-year Megan Iffland (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark’s) was third in the 100backstroke preliminaries with a time of 55.80, while second-year KateSlonaker (Summit, N.J./Oak Knoll) placed seventh in the prelims of the 100breaststroke in a time of 1:04.05.

After six of 20 finals, North Carolina leads the ACC Championship with 246points, while two-time defending champion Virginia is second with 231.5points.
