Cavaliers Fare Well at Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Virginia’s Elise Mitchell (Narvon,Pa./Garden Spot) continued her strong rookie season with a title in the 20#weight today at the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet. Although Mitchell’stoss of 17.03m (55′ 10 1/2″) was short of her school record toss of 17.34mshe still defeated the runner-up by more than a meter. Assistant Coach KimGraham also won a title with a victory in the 400m dash at 52.25.

Rob Pearce (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) turned in his best timein the 800m today with a 1:52.78, which was 15th overall. Teammate MattAntunes (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) ran a 1:54.17 in the same event. In the60m hurdles, Jarrett Hagwood (Martinsville, Va./Laurel) blazed to a time of8.01, which leads the Cavaliers this season. Marion Mason (Ft. Belvoir,Va./Hayfield) also ran the high hurdles, finshing in 8.19. These two alsocompeted in the long jump with Mason leaping 7.19 (23′ 7 1/4″) for 8thplace and Hagwood going 7.16 (23′ 6″) in 10th.
