TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Damous Anderson and Antwuan Dixon combined for 32second-half points Saturday to lead Florida State to a 71-64 victory overVirginia.
Anderson scored 18 of his game-high 24 points while Dixon matched acareer-high with 16 points, 14 in the second half – including eight straightfree throws.
Anderson, who didn’t start the game because he skipped a course in Latinpolitics last week, jump-started the Seminoles 48-point second half with a3-point jumper and layup in the opening 32 seconds of the final period asFlorida State took a 28-25 lead.
Anderson added successive 3-point jumpers only 39 seconds apart to give theSeminoles their largest lead of the contest at 60-51 with 4:38 left.
But Virginia (18-9, 8-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) cut its deficit to 63-62on a free throw by Chris Williams with 1:47 to go but could not regain thelead. The Cavaliers led 24-12 with 5:50 left in the first half, but were upjust 25-23 at the break.
Ron Hale added 15 points, including a pair of free throws and a dunk in thefinal 50 seconds, for Florida State, 11-14 and 6-8 in the ACC.
Chris Williams and Stephane Dondon led Virginia with 15 points apiece whileMajestic Mapp added 11 and Roger Mason 10 for the Cavaliers.
Donald Hand, who scored 28 points in Virginia’s 86-81 victory over FloridaState last month, scored only six points. Hand made 1 of 10 shots beforefouling out with 3:27 left in the game.
Florida State’s Justin Mott had a game-high nine rebounds as the Seminolescontrolled the backboards by a 42-31 margin.
