GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) – Nikki Teasley had 17 points and North Carolina addedto No. 16 Virginia’s Atlantic Coast Conference tournament woes with a 67-63victory over the Cavaliers in Sunday’s semifinals.
Teasley, picking up the slack on a day when top scorer and rebounderLaQuanda Barksdale got into early foul trouble, added eight rebounds and sevenassists as the Tar Heels (18-11) won their sixth consecutive game.
Barksdale, who scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half, put the TarHeels ahead to stay on a short jumper in the lane with 52 seconds left.
North Carolina, the No. 5 seed, advanced to the ACC title game for the sixthtime in seven years. The Tar Heels will be shooting for their fifthchampionship in that span and their sixth overall.
Top-seeded Virginia (23-8) fell to 2-7 in the ACC tournament against NorthCarolina, including losses in their last four meetings.
Freshman Schuye LaRue had 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to put theCavaliers in the title game for the first time since 1994.
Svetlana Volnaya added 15 points for Virginia and Renee Robinson had 17,including a 3-pointer that made it 63-all with 73 seconds left.
After Barksdale’s decisive jumper in the lane, she sealed it with a pair offoul shots with 16 seconds left.
