GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia fourth-year pitcher Stacey Zagol(Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) has been selected as the ACC Softball Pitcher ofthe Week for the week ending March 5. Zagol pitched a pair of completegame two-hitters and allowed only one run as she helped lead Virginia tothe title of its own 2000 UVA Cavalier Classic.
Zagol posted a 9-0 win over Ohio University on Friday, March 3. In thefive-inning contest, Zagol allowed just two singles and struck out eight ofthe 20 batters she faced. Zagol fired her second two-hitter of the UVACavalier Classic in a 7-1 win against Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, March 5.Against the Colonels, she struck out seven batters while walking one.
For her efforts, Zagol was named to the 10-member UVA Cavalier ClassicAll-Tournament team. Virginia won the tournament, held at The Park inCharlottesville, with a 4-0 record.
With the two victories, Zagol improved her record to 3-4 on the season.She also lowered her earned run average to a team-best 1.42. She leads UVawith 41 strikeouts in 49.1 innings of work as well.
The Cavaliers return to action March 10-12 when they compete in theNational Invitational Softball Tournament in San Jose, Calif.
