CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s basketball team received a fourth seed in the Mideast Region and will host the first and second round games at University Hall on March 17 & 19. Fifth-seed Boston College and 12th-seed Nebraska will square off in the first game on March 17 in Charlottesville followed by Virginia and 13th-seed Pepperdine. The second round game will be played on Sunday, March 19 at 7:35 p.m. The winner of Sunday’s game advances to the Sweet Sixteen in Memphis, Tenn.
“We are very pleased with the seed and with the fact that we get to stay home,” said Virginia coach Debbie Ryan. “That was a great thing for us and were very happy to see it. We are very proud of the season we have had.”
This is the Cavaliers 17th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the first time since the 1997 season that they will host a sub-regional. Virginia enters the tournament with a 23-8 record and a 13-3 ACC record which won them the regular season title. Virginia’s first round opponent, Pepperdine, is making its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Tickets for the sub-regional in Charlottesville go on sale on Monday, March 13 at 9:00 a.m a the University of Virginia Ticket Office. Tickets must be purchased as all-session packages for both days until Friday morning, when tickets may then be sold for individual sessions. All-session packages are $15 for adults and$10 for students college age and under and senior citizens. When single-sessions tickets go on sale Friday morning, they will be $10 per session for adults and $6 per session for students and senior citizens.
