LAS VEGAS – The University of Virginia men’s golf team finished 13th of 14 teams at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the Desert Inn Country Club. The Cavaliers shot a seven-over par 295 in the final round to drop to 13th place. Arizona State won the tournament after a two-hole playoff with Oklahoma State and Minnesota which finished at 16-under par with 848.
Virginia’s James Driscoll and Cameron Yancey finished the three-day tournament in a tie for 31st place with 218 (+2). Driscoll shot 69 and 72 in his final two rounds after struggling in the first round with a 77. Both players finished with 213. Mike Mitchell finished in a tie for 55th place with a total 222 (+7) while Steve Marino finished 64th with 225 (+9) and Justin Goodhue placed 65th 226 (+10).
D.J. Trahan of Clemson shot the day’s low score of 66 to come from four strokes back of the leader Matt Brost of Texas to tie for the lead. Trahan won the medalist honors in a three-hole playoff and finished at 207 (?9).
