CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia head track and field coachRandy Bungard has announced the hiring of Jason Twedt as a new assistantcoach. Twedt comes to UVA from the University of California at San Diegowhere he served as an assistant in the Tritons’ track and field program.
Jason Twedt begins his first season at Virginia with a host ofinternational and domestic experience as both a coach and a competitor. AWAC Champion in the javelin, Twedt continued his career after college bycompeting in the World Military Games while serving as a paratrooper in theUnited States Army. While in Europe, Twedt trained with world champions ina number of throwing events and gained a great deal of knowledge instudying with some of the world’s top throwing coaches.
Upon his return to the States, Twedt coached extensively and becamea registered coach at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in San Diego. He hasworked with athletes on the United States team, including one of the discusthrowers. He has also coached a finalist in the heptathlon at the OlympicTrials.
At UCSD Twedt coached three NCAA All-Americans in the discus,hammer and shot put as well as a hammer thrower that competed at the JuniorNationals meet and a US National qualifier in the discus.
“I am excited that Jason has come to Virginia He is a great fitinto Virginia track and field,” said Bungard. “He is also a fantasticacquisition because he can coach all four throwing events.”
