FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – University of Virginia second-year swimmer Ed Moses(Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) won his second title of the meet by winning the100-meter breaststroke Friday evening, March 31, at the Phillips 66National Championships in Federal Way, Washington. Moses clocked a winningtime of 1:01.43, nearly a second faster than the second-place finishers.The Phillips 66 Nationals are being swum in long course meters (50-meterpool). The National Championships, which run through April 1, are beingheld at the Weyerhaeuser/King County Aquatic Center.

Moses earned the top seed in the finals by winning the prelims earlier inthe day on Friday with a time of 1:01.32. In the finals, Moses won with atime of 1:01.43, 92 hundredths of a second faster than the two swimmers whotied for second place. Brendan Hansen of the Suburban Swim Center andJarrod Marrs of the Bengal Tiger Aquatics tied for second with a time of1:02.35.

On Thursday, March 29, Moses won the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of2:13.86, nearly half of a second ahead of Kyle Salyards, who entered thefinals as the top seed.

Moses set short course (25-meter pool) world records in the 100 and200-meter breaststroke at the NCAA Championships last week. At the NCAAsin Minneapolis, Moses won the 100-meter breaststroke with a world recordtime of 57.66 on March 24, and then set another world record in winning the200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:06.40 on March 25. Moses becameVirginia’s first swimmer to win two NCAA titles. Prior to Moses, the onlyother male UVa swimmer to win a NCAA title was Shamek Pietucha, who won the200 butterfly title in 1999.
