DURHAM, N.C. — The University of Virginia’s Tim Bilmanis (Hughesville,Md./Thomas Stone) took third in the men’s discus throw today at the DukeRelays in Durham with his toss of 48.88m (160′ 4′). His finish was thehighest placement for the Cavaliers in the rain-shortened event, a previewfor the NCAA Championships.
The Cavalier women also competed in the discus, with Hillary Wilson(East Claridon, Ohio /Hawken) taking fifth with a toss of 46.46 (152′ 5″)and Elise Mitchell (Narvon, Pa./Garden Spot) finishing right be hind her in6th with a throw of 46.08m (151′ 2″). Mitchell also competed in the shotput, tossing a 12.41m (40′ 8 3/4″). Other top-8 finishes for the Cavaliersincluded Micheline Diakite (Alexandria, Va./T. C. Williams) who ran a2:16.99 in the 800. Amy Eastwood (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) also ranthe 800, coming in in a time of 2:23.36 while teammate Frances Warner (FortDrum, N.Y./Carthage Central) ran a 2:32.51. Warner also ran the 1500 in4:35.42, in front of teammate Megan Schwartz (Morristown, N.J./Morristown),who ran 5:00.11.
