CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Tailback Arlen Harris carried the ball 15 timesfor114 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday (April 8) to highlight theUniversity of Virginia football team’s second spring scrimmage. Harrishadtouchdown runs of 16 and four yards.
Quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Bryson Spinner combined to complete30of 43 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.Schaub completed 19 of 27 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns withoneinterception, while Spinner completed 11 of 16 passes for 151 yards withone interception. Spinner also scored on a one-yard run.
Wide receivers Billy McMullen and James Johnson were the leadingreceivers in the scrimmage. McMullen caught six passes for 107 yards,including a 43-yard touchdown reception. Johnson caught six passes for73yards and tight end Chris Luzar caught four passes for 43 yards,includinga two-yard touchdown pass.
Tailback Tyree Foreman also scored on a one-yard touchdown run.
The defensive effort was led by linebacker Byron Thweatt with 10tackles, including six solo stops. Linebacker R.C. Cosby was in onninetackles, six of them unassisted including a tackle for lost yardage, andhecaused a fumble. Tackle Colin McWeeny was in on seven tackles, five ofthem unassisted.
Defensive back Shernard Newby intercepted two passes, broke uptwopasses and was in on three tackles, and defensive back Gavin Jacksonrecovered a fumble.
David Greene kicked field goals of 35 and 39 yards.
