GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Virginia women’s tennis team is thesixth seed in the 23rd annual Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s TennisChampionship which will be held April 20-23 at the Racquet Club of theSouth in Norcross, Ga. The Cavaliers open the tournament by playingthird-seeded Clemson in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 21 at 9:00 a.m.
Virginia, 52nd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Poll,stands at 13-9 overall and 3-5 in the ACC this season. The Tigers are 14-5overall and 6-2 in the conference and are ranked 26th in the ITA pollreleased April 12.
In the only meeting between Virginia and Clemson this season, the Cavaliersfell 5-4 in Clemson, S.C., on April 2. The Tigers lead the all-time seriesagainst UVa 20-3.
At the 1999 ACC Championship, the Cavaliers were the sixth seed and lost tothird-seeded Florida State 5-1 in the semifinals on April 23.
