Game 1 – Virginia (No. 1 seed) vs. North Carolina (No. 4 Seed)
The Cavs and Tar Heels played the first double-overtime game in ACCTournament history. It was just the second overtime game overall — andthe first since Maryland defeated Virginia, 9-8, in a 1993 semifinal(also in College Park). The 33 combined goals scored were the most in ACC Tournament history,eclipsing a 32-goal semifinal game between Virginia (19) and Duke (13)in 1994. Virginia advances to the ACC title game for the fifth consecutiveseason. Virginia’s 17 goals were the most by a team in an ACC Tournament gamesince the Cavs won another Virginia-UNC battle, 17-13, in a 1997semifinal. UVa was two groundballs (76) and one faceoff (23) shy of ACCTournament records in those categories (78 and 24, respectively). UNC freshman Austin Garrison finished one goal shy of the matching theindividual record for goals in an ACC Tournament game. The record is 6.Garrison had just eight goals for the season, entering the game. North Carolina’s 16 goals were the most scored by the Tar Heels allseason.
