CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three University of Virginia women’s tennis players have earned year-end NCAA Division I Regional Rankings in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region. In addition, the Cavaliers are ranked 54th in the nation in the final WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis rankings and are fourth in the East Region team rankings.

Virginia finished the 1999-2000 season rated 54th in the WingspanBank.com poll and were ranked as high as 40th during the season. UVa is fourth in the final East Region rankings after being as high as sixth in the ITA Fall rankings. William & Mary is the top ranked team in the East, followed by Virginia Commonwealth, and Princeton.

Individually, rising third-year Amy O’Donnell (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah), and rising fourth-years Leslie Cook (Boynton Beach, Fla./Lake Worth Christian) and Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas/Memorial) all garnered East Region rankings.

O’Donnell is ranked 17th in singles in the East Region after earning a rating of 19th in the ITA Fall rankings. O’Donnell, who played #1 singles for the Cavaliers this season, posted a 16-17 overall record. As a freshman in 1998-99, O’Donnell was 29-11 and played #3 singles in dual matches for the ‘Hoos.

Cook and Schweer are ranked 11th in the final East Region doubles rankings. In 1999-2000, the duo posted an 11-16 record as UVa’s #1 doubles tandem. Cook and Schweer both posted registered an 18-17 singles record this season.

Virginia finished the 1999-2000 season with a 13-10 overall record and a 3-5 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cavaliers were the sixth seed for the ACC Championship, but fell to third-seeded Clemson 6-3 in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 21 at the Racquet Club of the South in Norcross, Ga.
