INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Virginia had eight current and former swimmers compete in the second day of preliminaries at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials at Indiana University Natatorium on Thursday (August 10). Jason Webb, a 1998 Virginia graduate, finished 17th in the 100-meter backstroke, and just missed a berth in this evening’s semifinals.
Webb clocked a time of 57.08 in the 100-meter backstroke and missed advancing to the semifinals by 24 hundredths of a second. Rising second-year Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) turned in the second-best performance by a UVa swimmer as she placed 19th in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:18.72.
In tonight’s session, rising third-year Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) will swim in the finals of the 100-meter breaststroke. Moses enters the finals as the U.S. Olympic Trials record holder in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.99.
