NORDHALBEN, Germany– – Six players scored in double figures as the University of Virginia men’s basketball team rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat TSK Bamberg 98-77 on Saturday (Aug. 19). The game was the first of a six-game European tour for the Cavaliers.

Roger Mason, Jr., led Virginia in scoring with 20 points and he had five assists, while Donald Hand scored 17 points, grabbed four rebounds and had four assists. Chris Williams scored 16 points and had four rebounds, Travis Watson scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Adam Hall scored 13 points and had seven rebounds, and Keith Friel scored 11 points for the Cavaliers.

Virginia trailed 49-45 at halftime, but rallied in the second half for the victory. The Cavaliers outscored TSK Bamberg by 22 points in the fourth quarter.

“We were a little sluggish early in the game,” said UVa assistant coach Tom Herrion. “I think the trip wore us out a little bit. We played a pretty good first division professional team and they were very physical. Our kids really responded at halftime and played real well in the second half.

“I think we wore them out with our depth and our quickness. Our pressure bothered them. It’s a great way to start the trip and I’m proud of our team.”

Virginia plays TSV Breitengussbach in Nordhalben on Sunday (Aug. 20) before traveling to Belgium for three games.
