NORDHALBEN, Germany– – Five players scored in double figures for the University of Virginia men’s basketball team as the Cavaliers coasted to a 95-59 victory over TSV Breitengussbach on Sunday (Aug. 20). UVa led 56-22 at halftime and is now 2-0 on its six-game European tour.
Stephane Dondon (Toulouse, France) led Virginia in scoring with 21 points and he had nine rebounds, while Travis Watson (Brookneal, Va.) added 14 points and six rebounds. Dondon made nine of 10 shots from the field. Keith Friel (Durham, N.H.) scored 13 points, Adam Hall (Katy, Texas) scored 12 points, grabbed four rebounds and had four assists, and Jason Rogers (Staunton, Va.) scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Rogers made five of seven shots from the field. Roger Mason, Jr., (Silver Spring, Md.) just missed scoring in double figures with nine points, and he had six rebounds and five assists.
“We played with a lot of energy considering today’s game was at 2:00 p.m. and we didn’t get to bed until 1:00 a.m. after Saturday’s game,” said Virginia assistant coach Tom Herrion. “We were pretty much in control the whole game.
“We’ve had good scoring balance and have been very unselfish in the first two games of this trip. Our kids are really sharing the basketball and playing well together.”
Virginia now travels to Belgium for three games. The Cavaliers play the Antwerp Junior Team on Monday (Aug. 21).
