JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.– – The University of Virginia golf team is in eighth place after the first day of the Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. The 14 teams in the tournament played 36 holes on Saturday (Sept. 9). The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Sunday (Sept. 10).
Texas Christian University leads the team competition with a 17 under par total of 559 and South Carolina is second with a 565 total. Virginia has a team total of six over par 582.
Senior Cameron Yancey had rounds of 70 and 71 on The Ridges Country Club par 72 golf course for a three under par total of 141 to lead the Cavaliers. He is tied for ninth in the individual competition. UVa junior Steve Marino is tied for 13th with a 142 total after two rounds of 71. Other players competing in the tournament for Virginia include sophomore Justin Goodhue (149, 78-71), freshman Rusty Kennedy (151, 76-75) and senior Mike Mitchell (155, 81-74).
The tournament’s individual leaders are Johan Kok (71-66) and Scott Feaster (68-69) of South Carolina with two round totals of seven under par 137.
