UVa Golf Team Finishes 10th At The Ridges Intercollegiate Tournament

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.–The University of Virginia golf team finished 10th in the 14-team Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate Tournament on Sunday (Sept. 10). Texas Christian University won the 54-hole tournament with a team score of 13 under par 851 on The Ridges Country Club par 72 golf course. South Carolina was second with a 10 under par total of 854. Virginia finished with a team total of 11 over par 875.

Senior Cameron Yancey (Blackstone, Va.) and junior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.) led the Cavaliers by finishing tied for eighth in the individual competition with Jerome Theunis of Southern Methodist University at three under par 213. Yancey had rounds of 70, 71 and 72, while Marino had three consecutive rounds of 71.

Johan Kok of South Carolina won the individual championship with rounds of 71-66-71 for an eight under par total of 208.

Other players competing in the tournament for Virginia included sophomore Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn., 228, 78-71-79), senior Mike Mitchell (Chevy Chase, Md., 228, 81-74-73) and freshman Rusty Kennedy (Phoenix, Ariz., 228, 76-75-77).

The tournament was hosted by East Tennessee State University.

Virginia competes next in the Tennessee Tournament of Champions in Knoxville, Tenn., September 18-19.
