SYDNEY, AUSTRAILA – Former University of Virginia swimmer Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) advanced to the semifinals of the 100-meter breaststroke at the Olympic Games Friday (September 15) with the third fastest time of the preliminaries. In the women’s swimming competition, second-year Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep), who was swimming for Macedonia, placed 17th in the 400-meter individual medley, but failed to advance to the finals.
Moses finished third in the eighth heat and third overall with a time of 1:01.59. Domenico Fioravanti of Italy turned in the top time of the prelims at 1:01.32, while Daniel Malek of Italy was second at 1:01.56, just three hundredths of a second faster than Moses. Moses will swim in the semifinals of the 100 breaststroke tomorrow, Saturday, September 16. The finals of the 100 breast are scheduled for Sunday, September 17.
Bosevska, who also represented Macedonia in the 1996 Olympics, turned in a time of 4:48.08 in the 400-meter individual medley to finish 17th overall. She was seventh in the second heat. Bosevska will now compete in the 400-meter freestyle on Saturday (September 16).
