FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Virginia volleyball team lost to Arkansas 3-0 (15-9, 15-9, 15-4) in the first round of the 2000 Bank of Fayetteville Invitational Friday evening (September15) at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville, Ark. With the loss, the Cavaliers fall to 4-4 on the season, while Arkansas improves to 3-4.
Fourth-year middle Deanna Zwarich (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) led the `Hoos with 10 kills and two services aces. First-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) contributed nine kills, six digs and four blocks, while second-year middle Simona Kuipers (Bow Island, Alberta, Canada/Senator Gershaw) added six kills and a team-high eight blocks.
Sophomore middle blocker Libby Windell led the Lady Razorbacks to the victory with 15 kills in 21 attempts with just one error for a .667 hitting percentage. Windell also registered nine blocks in the match.
Arkansas posted a .305 hitting percentage in the match, while the Cavaliers were only able to hit .092. The Lady Razorbacks also had an excellent night blocking as they posted 13 team blocks. Virginia recorded a very respectable nine team blocks in the contest.
Virginia returns to action at the 2000 Bank of Fayetteville Invitational on Saturday, September 16 when they play Michigan and Houston at 11:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
