SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – University of Virginia second-year swimmer Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep) placed 20th in the preliminaries of the 200-meter butterfly Tuesday (September 19) at the Olympic Games. In the men’s 200-meter butterfly held September 17, former Virginia swimmer Shamek Pietucha (Edmonton, Alberta/Louis St. Laurent) placed 18th in the prelims. The Olympic swimming competition is being held at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre.
Bosevska, who is swimming for Macedonia in the Olympics, finished second in the second heat of the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.59. She was 20th overall with the top 16 advancing to the semifinals. Earlier in the Olympic Games, Bosevska finished 17th in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:48.08. Bosevska will compete in her third and final event, the 800-meter freestyle on Wednesday, September 20.
In the men’s 200-meter butterfly, Pietucha, who is swimming for Canada, posted a time of 1:59.59 to finish 18th overall. Pietucha, a 1999 Virginia graduate, will also compete in the 100-meter butterfly on Wednesday, September 20.
Virginia second-year Guy Yimsomruay (Bangkok, Thailand/Germantown) will compete in the 200-meter individual medley later Wednesday evening. Yimsomruay is swimming for Thailand.
Former Virginia swimmer Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock), who won a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:00.73 at the Olympic Games on Sunday, September 17, returns to competition in the Olympics on Thursday, September 21. Moses will swim the breaststroke leg on the USA’s 400-meter medley relay team.
