Virginia Men’s Tennis Falls To Oklahoma 5-1

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Virginia men’s tennis team lost to Oklahoma 5-1 on Saturday (September 30) and trails Illinois State 6-1 after singles play in the round-robin Navy Invitational. In the other matches in the Navy Invitational on Saturday, Illinois State defeated Navy 7-1 and Oklahoma beat Navy 5-1.

In the 5-1 loss to Oklahoma, second-year Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) registered the only UVa victory in the match at #4 singles. Duquette defeated Chris Mitchell 0-6, 6-4, 6-1. First-year Patrick Guarnieri (Potomac, Md./Landon School) posted Virginia’s only singles win against Illinois State as he posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Andrew Martin. Illinois State leads the Cavaliers 6-1 with doubles play to be contested Sunday morning.
