GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia fourth-year middle Deanna Zwarich (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) and first-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) have been selected as co-recipients of the ACC’s Volleyball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. They share the Player and Rookie of the Week awards with Georgia Tech’s Eida Mabry and Kele Eveland.

Zwarich continued her outstanding play in the 2000 season by averaging 6.25 kills, 1.83 digs and 1.08 blocks per game in three matches this past week. Zwarich also hit an impressive .363 in the matches against North Carolina, NC State, and Virginia Tech. Zwarich had 17 kills, 11 digs and three blocks in a 3-0 loss to North Carolina (Oct. 17). In the 3-2 win at NC State (Oct. 20), she posted 23 kills and six blocks. Zwarich concluded the week with an impressive 35-kill performance in a 3-1 win at Virginia Tech (Oct. 21). She hit an amazing .556 against the Hokies and added seven digs and four blocks.

With the four blocks against Virginia Tech, Zwarich became the first Virginia volleyball player to amass 100 or more blocks in all four seasons. Zwarich not only leads the Cavaliers, but all ACC players in kills and blocks in 2000 with 403 and 104, respectively.

Davis also had an excellent week for the `Hoos. The freshman posted 3.83 kills, 4.08 digs and hit .276 in the 2-1 week for the Cavaliers. She began the week with a 10-kill, 15-dig and five-block performance against North Carolina. Davis recorded 15 kills and 21 digs in a win over NC State. She then added a 21-kill, 13-dig effort against Virginia Tech. She hit an impressive .457 against the Hokies.

Davis has now registered 10-consecutive double-doubles in kills and digs. She also leads UVa with 16 double-doubles this season. Davis tops the Cavaliers in digs with 299 and is second on the team with 304 kills.

The Cavaliers return to action this evening (October 24) when they host ACC rival Maryland at 7:30 p.m. at University Hall.
