UVa’s Tuchband Wins First Round Match at ITA East Regionals

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – University of Virginia second-year women’s tennis player Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J. / Millburn) won her first round singles match in the ITA East Region Championships at William and Mary Saturday (Nov. 4). Tuchband defeated Yale’s Elizabeth Kaufman, 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Tuchband did not fare as well in the doubles portion of the event, however, where she and fourth-year Kelly Weaver (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) fell to James Madison’s Lauren Dalton and Sheri Puppo, 8-3. Cavaliers Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas / Memorial), a fourth-year, and second-year Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C. / Broughton) also lost a first round doubles match to William and Mary’s Nina Kamp and Kari Olsen, 8-6.

Williams, Tuchband, Schweer and first-year Laura James (Fairfax, Va. / Centerville) all have second round singles matches scheduled for Sunday (Nov. 5). Williams, Schweer and James received byes in the first round of the tournament.
