CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UVa fourth-year tennis player Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./ Chapel Hill) won quarterfinal and semifinal matches at the ITA Region II Tournament Sunday (Nov. 5) to advance to the tournament finals.
After winning a first round match over AU’s Bence Hamori on Friday (Nov. 3), 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, the fifth-seeded Montgomery returned Saturday (Nov. 4) to beat South Carolina’s David Nelson, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the second round. Then, on Saturday afternoon, Montgomery bested William and Mary’s Trevor Spracklin, the tournament’s 12th seed, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Montgomery upended 13th seed Joel Spicher from Duke, 7-6, 6-2 Sunday (Nov. 5) morning, before taking care of Wake Forest’s Raul Munoz in the afternoon, 6-4, 6-3. Montgomery will play second-seeded Andre Pedroso from Duke Monday morning (Nov. 6) in the tournament finals.
